Top the bed with a woven blanket, matelassé
coverlet, or lightweight quilt. (Bedspreads and
comforters can look and feel heavy.) Asolid color
keeps things serene. Fold the flat sheet over the
blanket about 8 to 12 inches. Tuck the sides and
bottom of the blanket underthe mattress.
Lay a folded duvet, comforter, or blanket across the
foot of the bed. This is the place for the most color or
pattern; because it’s folded, it won’t overwhelm.
Prop sleeping pillows against the headboard or wall.
For a queen-size bed, add two Euro shams for height,
then two standard shams. The Euro shams will be
partially covered, so a hint of pattern can be fun.
